About Laura: My approach to a Sound Bath in Norwich

I discovered sound baths through my journey into meditation. Certain sounds and instruments can help settle our minds and move us out of ‘thinking’ into more expanded states of consciousness. A sound bath is a gentle social gathering where you can simply enjoy being present with others without having to do anything. Often I like to combine a short meditative practice with sound healing.

Frequently Asked Questions (Sound Bath Norwich)

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a deeply relaxing experience where you lie or sit comfortably while being immersed in sounds created by instruments such as singing bowls, chimes and other resonant instruments. Rather than actively trying to meditate or clear your mind, you can simply listen, notice the sounds and allow yourself some time to rest.

You’ll usually begin by getting comfortable, often lying down with blankets and cushions for support. Seated options are also available. I’ll guide you into a relaxed state before playing a range of instruments, creating a gentle soundscape for you to listen to. There is nothing you need to do or achieve — you can simply listen, rest and notice what you experience.

People often describe feeling deeply relaxed, calmer and more mentally spacious after a sound bath. It can provide a valuable opportunity to step away from everyday demands, slow down and give your attention something gentle to rest on. Research from EEG studies suggests our brainwaves shift away from beta (thinking) towards alpha or theta which are associated with more relaxed expansive states.

Everyone experiences a sound bath differently. You may feel physically relaxed, become very absorbed in the sounds, notice your thoughts becoming quieter or simply enjoy having some uninterrupted time to rest. Some people feel sleepy, while others feel more energised or sometimes euphoric.

It is best not to bring any expectations with you if at all possible. People can vary in how they experience a sound bath on any one day depending on what else is going on for you. In general most people find there is a shift towards relaxation and away from thinking, and you might find this is true even if you do not ‘like’ the sounds themselves. If you have a lot of difficult experiences going on in your life, a sound bath might not be the best place to start, and it might be worth considering a therapy such as EMDR to process your difficult experiences first.

I recommend bringing a blanket and one or two cushions so that you can get properly comfortable. You may also like to bring an eye mask or anything else that helps you feel relaxed. The aim is to create a warm, comfortable space where you can let yourself rest.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax easily. Warm layers are a good idea because your body temperature can change when you are lying still for a period of time.

Not at all. You don’t need to have meditated before, and you don’t need to know anything about sound healing or mindfulness. Sound baths are very accessible because there is no technique you need to master. You simply listen and allow yourself to experience the sounds.

Sounds baths are very relaxing so its not unusual to fall asleep and that’s completely fine. On snoring – it is my policy to give you a gentle squeeze on your toes if you are snoring loudly so as not to disrupt the experience for others.

Technically a sound bath is classed as a complementary therapy and therefore it is not permitted to make any claims about it helping with stress and anxiety. In practise many people find sound baths relaxing. If you are dealing with significant stress and anxiety, it may be worth considering therapy first.

Again due to the nature of complementary therapy it is not possible to make any health claims. Many people find sound baths relaxing which might help with sleep. If you are struggling with insomnia it may be worth considering therapy such as CBT or potentially EMDR.

Most sound baths last around an hour, and may or may not include a period of meditation at the start. Some maybe shorter incorporated into a meditation and sound bath combined class, or longer combined into mini retreat events.

Sound baths are generally gentle and suitable for a lot of people, but they aren’t necessarily right for everyone. Please get your doctors approval before booking if you: have epilepsy or seizures, have a pacemaker or electronic implant, you are in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, have a severe mental health condition, have mental implants, blood clots or tinnitus.

I am pleased to offer sound baths on the edge of Norwich. The studio is located to the west side of the city not far from the hospital. You’ll receive the full address and directions when you book. Regular classes will start in 2026. Register your interest!
